According to the BfR-Corona-Monitor, three out of four respondents consider the national vaccination strategy appropriate.

Anyone who belongs to a risk group lives in a nursing home or works in healthcare is first entitled to vaccination against the novel coronavirus. The order for vaccination protection is regulated by the national vaccination strategy.

As the results of the 27th edition of the BfR-Corona-Monitor, a regular survey conducted by the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), show, the majority of the population approves of this approach.

74 percent of the respondents consider the national vaccination strategy to be appropriate. This indicates that the strategy is accepted.”

While some regulations, such as the cancellation of events or the quarantine measures, have always been met with approval in recent months, other measures are now less accepted.

There are a few reasons Nicholas Kolcheff, better known as Nickmercs in the gaming world, is watched by millions on Twitch and YouTube. For one, the guy is a good (virtual) hang. UFC champion Max Holloway and Tampa Bay Buccaneer wide receiver Mike Evans are just a few fans who enjoy the gamer’s vibes, and count themselves among his MFAM online community. For another, the guy can absolutely slay in Call Of Duty: Warzone.

“There are a lot of things I’m not good at, but I’m fucking good at this game,” says Kolcheff. That statement is backed by the fact the Michigan native just dropped his personal record in the Activision battle royale, racking up 39 kills. The accomplishment is one to celebrate, but even more so, the fact that tens of thousands of people tuned in live to watch him do it on Twitch. “The game is really … Read the rest

Britain today recorded the fewest coronavirus cases in a day since December 15 with 22,195 more people testing positive – a 41 per cent drop on last Monday – and new deaths remained level at 592, down one per cent in a week.

The latest numbers came as Boris Johnson is facing growing pressure from Tory MPs to lay out his lockdown exit strategy after he triggered confusion this morning by hinting ‘some’ curbs could be eased in mid-February.

But he defied a growing Conservative mutiny by refusing to guarantee that schools will re-open by Easter. The PM said ministers will be ‘looking at the potential of relaxing some measures’ with the four most vulnerable groups on track to have been given vaccines by February 15.

But in comments that muddied the water even further, he stressed that infections are still ‘very high’ and only pledged that children will be back … Read the rest

“God forbid, don’t look back!”

Those are not the words you want to hear while skiing. But that’s exactly what one unfortunate skier heard from onlookers in the chairlift above. The reason for the dire warning? He was being chased down the mountain by a bear.

This terrifying scenario took place at Romania’s Predeal Ski Resort when a lone skier managed to attract the attention of one very grumpy bear. The video of the incident is captured from people sitting on the ski lift, who helplessly watch as the skier carved his way down the slope, with the bear in hot pursuit.

“Go faster, go faster,” yelled onlookers, according to Ziarul de iasi (ZDI). “Come on, the bear is chasing you. Go faster.”

Easier said than done, especially when a fall could result in a mauling. Thankfully, the skier managed to make it to the bottom of the mountain unscathed.… Read the rest

In the last days of 2020, Oculus quietly rolled out a fitness tracker, called Oculus Move, that lives inside its Quest headsets. Users who download the software can watch the calories they burn in virtual reality, along with their physically active minutes, climb on a ticker floating above or below their field of view. With a deeper dive into the tracker’s dashboard, they can also set goals and track their progress over time.

Move appears to be an acknowledgment from Oculus that fitness is a primary reason for many people to use VR. That’s certainly the case for me. I’m not much of a gamer in general, but for the past couple months, I’ve exercised nearly every day in virtual reality. And despite what you might think about the incompatibility of video games and exercise, these are serious workouts. Some end with me gasping for breath and wringing sweat from … Read the rest

If you believe you are capable of becoming the healthy, engaged person you want to be in old age, you are much more likely to experience that outcome, a recent Oregon State University study shows.

How we think about who we’re going to be in old age is very predictive of exactly how we will be.”

Shelbie Turner, Study Co-Author, Doctoral Student, College of Public Health and Human Sciences, Oregon State University

Previous studies on aging have found that how people thought about themselves at age 50 predicted a wide range of future health outcomes up to 40 years later — cardiovascular events, memory, balance, will to live, hospitalizations; even mortality.

“Previous research has shown that people who have positive views of aging at 50 live 7.5 years longer, on average, than people who don’t,” said Karen Hooker, co-author of the study and the Jo Anne Leonard Petersen Endowed Chair … Read the rest
