Wallabies coach Robbie Deans is thrilled with the way his side's gameplan of putting the Springboks under pressure bore fruit on Saturday.
South Africa were constantly on the back foot faced with the free-running Wallabies and cracked under the pressure, handing Australia a 30-13 win in Brisbane.
"We wanted to build as much pressure as we could and to do that you've got to keep the ball," Deans told Foxsports after the game.
"It wasn't always successful but we asked enough to sap them and it made it more difficult when they did get the ball in terms of their attack."
"I'm clearly happy with the performance. There was a lot of stuff to be proud of, particularly the defence.
"We know next week we've got a [New Zealand] team coming who will do that plus a bit. They've got a lot of patience, they'll work us around, and we'll have to finish the opportunities that we get.
"We created some opportunities and didn't finish them so that's always frustrating. You usually don't get many in Tri-Nations but we created a few so that was good."
Skipper Rocky Elsom added that bit wasn't easy to play so fast, but the plan worked perfectly.
"It's great to have a win here," said Elsom.
"That's the style we want to play all the time. Playing it is not as easy as it seems sometimes. It didn't go perfectly in the beginning but we stuck to it and it paid off for us."
Scrum-half Will Genia reckons the hosts could have won by more had they finished off all their chances.
"The most pleasing thing about tonight's performance was we left about three tries on the park through a lack of finishing so we'll go away and work on that and that will stand us in good stead for the game against the All Blacks," said Genia.
