The Fiji Sports Council in Laucala Bay has a new tenant - the Fiji Rugby Union.
After several years of trying the FRU has finally found an adequate building to set up its FRU High Performance Unit Suva Licensed Training Centre Gymnasium by converting the Fiji Sports Council's old badminton hall.
Fiji Rugby's chief executive Keni Dakuidreketi is delighted with the location.
"It's perfect for us in terms of size and space and obviously we've still got to do a bit of work on the building such as putting in toilets and showers but other than that it's just such a relief to have finally gotten this place," Dakuidreketi said.
FRU's high performance unit staff, assisted by national coach Samuela Domoni, are currently in the process of outfitting the gym with equipment to the value of $75,000.
"The gym will be used initially to serve all national team players from the declared squads of the major unions from Namosi, Suva, Naitasiri, Rewa, Tailevu and Northland," Dakuidreketi said.
The gym is expected to be ready for business by this Friday (23 July). Already in the FRU pipeline is a second major gym to be based in Nadi and presently discussions on the location are on-going.
